Are You Living Your Dream …or Someone Else’s?

You’ve done all the things, you’ve accomplished goals, and you are successful. That’s something to be proud of. Except…do you feel like you’re living your dream life?

How do you feel about where you are? Do you feel successful? Or do you feel like something is missing? Like life is good, and by so many measures, you have a great life. But it doesn’t really feel that way. Something is off and just meh.

Have you ever thought about whether you are really living YOUR dream?

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the things you are “supposed” to do.

Go to school, get good grades, get a degree in something that will get you a good job, climb the “ladder”. But while you felt good about the accomplishments, it never really excited you all that much. And you never really stopped to think about, what do I really want, is this it? Is there something else out there that is more “me”?

I believe there are a couple of big reasons (probably more!) why we never really stop to think about these things.

One is that we are just brought up with the ideas of the path we should take, whether they are instilled in us by our parents, our teachers, or anyone else who has an influence on us growing up. And we don’t really question it. That’s just what we feel is expected, the way things are. The second is the generally accepted idea that, well, everyone hates their jobs, life is just hard and that’s just the way it is.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

And it shouldn’t.

Sure, it’s not always going to be fairy tales and rainbows, but shouldn’t we at least try to make everything the best we can? We have this one life, and we should get to live it the way we want. But we have to stop and think about what it is that we actually do want. I bet a lot of you don’t really even know because you’ve never thought about it…(I know I’ve been there)….or thought it was just something unrealistic like you couldn’t really do THAT….but, says who?. And we also need to believe that we shouldn’t just accept that “life sucks and then you die” attitude. Just because the majority of people seem to feel that way. We have to recognize that we get to choose, and if we aren’t happy, we get to change things.

You have this one precious life. Don’t waste it living it to someone else’s idea of what it should be. Live YOUR life.  You get to decide what that is.
